According to a statement released by the Roots party spokesman, the Roots party presidential candidate will not be attending the 2022 presidential debate. The debate that is scheduled for 26th July ,2022 at Catholic university of eastern Africa has brought up alot of controversial messages.
The statement said, “Roots Party would like to state that our presidential candidate Prof Wajackoyah will not attend the presidential debate because we will not subject the incoming president to the joke of an already determined debate. The media cannot decide the outcome of an elelction before the poll day. The notion that some candidates are trailing others or some leading others is baseless. We refuse to be counted as “other” in this importsnt demmocratic duty of seeking the presidency.”
The statement indicated that it is not right for the presidential debate to have tow sessions based on the recent polls by netizens. The arrangement of the debate is to have the candidates who featured in the below 5 percent of the polls and the other two who were above the 5 percent in the surveys.
It is revealed that the party had earlier sent a letter which had their grievances to the presidential debate secretariat, who has since not responded to the concerned raised.
Earlier on, Prof. Wajackoyah had promised to attend the presidential debate if only he will be in the same panel as his competitors, Dr. William Ruto and the Azimio party leader Raila Odinga.
This comes after the Azimio presidential candidate pulled out of the debate with claims of favourism towards the United Democratic Alliance Presidential candidate on matters of Integrity and corruption. Raila Odinga’s spokesman went ahead to state that UDA Presidential candidate lacked basic decency.
This has left the debate with only two candidates, Deputy president William Ruto and Agano party’s David Mwaure Kihiga.
