Professor Wainaina who had been replaced by Waceke Wanjohi is in reprieve as the court temporarily stops his sacking. A statement from the employment and labour court declared that the sacking of the former Kenyatta university vice chancellor was null and void.
Earlier,prof. Wainaina had failed to comply to a request from the head of public service, Joeseph Kinyua which led to his sacking.
Joseph Kinyua had written a letter to the vice chancellor on the 4th of july , 2022 requesting him to hand over the institution’s title deed, however the request was in vain.
The decline of this request led to the troubles faced by the professor which included his sacking. However, the court withheld the advertisement of the vice chancellor’ s position due to the impending case.
According to judge Jacob Gakeri , “This honourable court is pleased to issue a temporary order suspending the implementation of the decision contained in the letter dated 12th july 2022 by professor Crispus Kiamba in toto suspending, terminating and or dismissing the petitioner from the office of the vice chancellor, rendering his position vacant and revoking his salary.”
The judge went ahead to barr the institution, Kenyatta University from advertising the or appointment of anyone as the vice chancellor of the same university.
On Friday the 22nd, 2022, Kenyatta university held its annual graduation whch was presided over by Waceke Wanjohi, together with the new council : Crispus Kiamba, Jane Wamoko, Carilus Odumbe, Bashir Yusuf, Andrew Nyanchoga and Alice Muita.
According to the university, the council is mandated to administer the property funds of the university in a manner that shall promote the interests of the university. However, the council had refused to hand over the title deed due to the impending case.
The statement read,”The council will be unable to accede to the request to surrender the title deed to the subject parcel as requested.”
