After the tallying exercise is done regarding the presidential results, the chairman of the Independent electoral and boundaries commission, Wafula Chebukati is expected to announce the next president of Kenya.
According to the Constitution, declaration of a president must happen within seven days after the election is done .
The forms 34B from all the 290 constituencies across the 47 counties in Kenya will be used to declare the winner.
Article 138(10)of the constitution reads, “Within seven (7) days after the presidential election, the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission shall; (a) declare the result of the election; and (b) deliver a written notification of the result to the Chief Justice and the incumbent president.”
Yesterday, on 11th August, the chairman of the independent electoral and boundaries commission, Chebukati , stood at the Bomas of Kenya and announces form 34B results of Webuye East Constituency.
According to the results, presidential Candidate, William Ruto of Kenya kwanza had garnered more votes. The total number of votes was 16,412.
Dr.Ruto was followed closely by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga who had a total of 13,720 votes.
In third place was George Luchiri Wajackoyah of Roots party with a total of 249 votes. In fourth place was Waihiga Mwaure of Agano party with 110 votes in total.
There are still so many forms 34B that IEBC chair has not yet announced. The commission is still rushing in order to beat the seven days period stipulated by the constitution.
However, Chebukati assured Kenyans that there is no need to panic , the commission will fulfill its constitutional duty of announcing results within seven days.
He stated,“The issue of declaring results, that will not happen today. We have seven days to do that. As the National Returning Officer ,I am assuring you that we shall do everything to have this process concluded earliest possible.”
