Lokichar residents in Turkana South have taken it to the streets to protest over the issue of Insecurity.
They reported that the insecurity issue is now rampant that it is threatening the area.
One of the residents reported that,” the goons attacked the area last night. They injured a few people. One was shot in the head, the other on the hand. “
It is reported that the goons managed to get away with over 3 million kenyans shillings and another important gadget that was in their M-pesa safe.
The situation has forced many residents to close their businesses as early as 4pm to feel safe when going to their houses.
Another residents reported,”we have decided to demonstrate because our lives are in danger. Last week Lokichar petrol station was robbed, a police officer was also killed on the road, A shop was also robbed and the owner Killed, Yesterday a supermarket was robbed and three people lost their lives. The town is now in great tension.”
Lokichar is the capital town where the petroleum mines are located in Turkana South. The residents are afraid that the insecurity situation will affect the mining and produce of petroleum from the area.
The situation can scare away the investors of petroleum in the area.
Samuel Ndayi, the policer commander in the area has reported that the cases have been reported and investigations are underway.
However the resident have reported that the police are not taking any step to curb the goons from killing the people and disrupting their businesses.
Another resident reported,”Others came from that far end, they shot at everbody. We haven’t seen any police intervening.”
Another resident stated,”We tried reporting it to the police but no one has been arrested. We can not comfortably sleep at home. All this is happening regardless of the presence of police in the area.”
The residents are really hoping the situation will be dealt with soon enough.
