Kenyans have taken to their social media accounts to state that the figures stated by Independent electoral and boundaries commission deputy, Julian Cherera are not correct.
IEBC deputy stated that, the figures announced by the Independent electoral and boundaries commission chair, Wafula Chebukati, were mathematically absurd.
Cherera asked,” Chebukati claimed that Raila attained 25% of the votes in 34 counties while Ruto attained 25% in 39 counties; the question is, which figures constituted the independent variable to warrant the conclusion?”
She said that the total percentages added up to 100.01%. She said that this was more than the percentage of votes that were cast by Kenyans which is 100%.
She further stated that the additional 0.01 percent equated to 142,000 voters which is incorrect.
According to the Independent electoral and boundaries commission, the total number of votes cast in the 2022 general elections was 14,200,000 votes.
Kenyans have reacted to this stating that, 0.01 percent of the total votes equates to a total of 1420 votes.
This has brought up alot of conspiracies since the Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga used Juliani Cherera’s statement to announce the presidential results as null and void.
The Independent electoral and boundaries commission deputy chair also stated that Mr. Wafula Chebukati did not wait for other commissioners to verify the results before announcing and declaring the president elect.
Raila Odinga Ochoed her saying,”We understand that only Mr. Chebukati alone had access to the tally of the presidential vote. He denied the commissioners access to that information.
However, lawmakers such as Miguna Miguna have reacted to Cherera and Raila Odinga’s statement.
Miguna Miguna stated,”The supreme court in the Maina Kiai decision holds that the results as announced at the polling stations are FINAL. Those results cannot be altered or invalidated by Wafula Chebukati or the IEBC commissioners. Raila Odinga’s arguments are null and void.”
