The independent electoral and boundaries commission chair has today clarified the 0.01% error raised by Cherera and the other three commissioners.
On monday, a split was witnessed between the seven Independent electoral and boundaries commissioners.
The 4 commissioners led by Julian Cherera , on monday stated that they can not take ownership of the results announced by Chebukati chair because of the opaque nature of the tallying exercise.
Yesterday, The IEBC deputy, Cherera stated that total number of votes equated to 100.01% . She further stated that the 0.01% extra equated to 142,000 voters.
She said,”This summation gives us a total of 100.01 per cent. This translates to approximately 142,000 votes which will make a significant difference in the final results.”
However, according to netizens, the 0.01% equates to 1420 votes.
She further stated that at the last minute, they were not involved in the last minute verification of the results.
She said,”When we demanded that we verify the results, the chairman refused and insisted on declaring and announcing the results.”
She said that they decided to split because they cannot take charge of the presidential results since they did not verify the form 34C.
She however commented that they have done their best in the whole exercise regardless of the challenges.
She said, ”We have done the 2022 general election in the most efficient manner. We have ensured that all the challenges have been contained.”
However, today , the Independent electoral and commission, Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, has clarified the claims.
Chebukati urged that Kenyans should refer to the IEBC portal for clarification of the results. He stated that after the tallies, they should be able to make a very accurate judgement.
He stated that,”Please refer to the tabulation on the IEBC website that provides a scientifically accurate analysis. We urge Kenyans to interact with these results and make an objective judgement.”
