IEBC Commissioners subjected Kenya to shame says Raila Odinga.
A sentiment he expressed during his speech at his home in Karen.
The Azimio la Umoja leader, Raila Odinga states that the split that Kenyans witnessed of the IEBC commissioners was shameful.
Raila Odinga who was speaking with the clergy on saturday, 20th August 2022, further insisted on his disapointment on the presidential polls.
Raila Odinga stated that , if the Independent electoral and boundaries commission which is given the mandate to run a major exercise in the country , then democracy is not in Kenya.
He further stated that, people in Kenya should not be celebrating of having a president elect if democracy which is the rule of the people, by the people , for the people was not upheld.
He said,”If those who were given the mandate to conduct election in our country can do such shameful acts, it shows our democracy is still far, and at this time people wouldn’t be celebrating on a winner.”
The Azimio la Umoja leader also said that if a declaration can not be reached by the seven(7) independent electoral and boundaries commissioners then that was an act of shame witnesses by other countries.
He said, “If the seven IEBC commissioners did not give a statement as one body, then that was a bad show in eyes of other countries.”
Raila further stated that , he decides to petition the results because he is advocating for peace.
He also stated that the legal way will promote credibility and transparency that was supposed to be upheld during the 2022 presidential election.
He said,”We want peace in our country and that is why we went the legal way so that we can take the evidence that we have that the elections were not transparent and fair.”
Raila also stated that he is certain, justice will prevail.
