Chebukati abandoned me, is what Mohammed Kanyare has told the media. The Independent electoral and boundaries staffer stated since his accident no one from IEBC has reached out.
Mohammed Kanyare was an Independent electoral and boundaries commission presiding officer at Towheed polling in Eldas constituency, wajir county.
The staffer, Mohammed Kanyare stated that he was shot while on duty. The incident happened on 10th of August 2022, a day after the general elections in Kenya were held.
Mohammed told the media that , the goons shot him at a very close range, an impact that caused the doctors to have his leg amputated.
In his statement, Mohammed Kanyare said that no one from the independent electoral and boundaries commission has reached out.
No one from the commission has checked up on him and he insisted that Chebukati abandoned me.
He said,”I have not heard from the commission that I was working for since they left me unattended to. Even a ‘sorry’ from them would have been better.”
Mohammed went ahead to say that he has not spoken to anyone from the commission. He also said that no one from his family has heard from the Independent electoral and boundaries commission.
He said,”I have no communication from the commission neither has any of my family members has heard from the commission that I was hurt working for.”
Mohammed Kanyare explained that as he was preparing the forms 34A to send them to the returning officer, some goons paraded as police officers came at the polling station.
He noted that the next thing he had was a gunshot but he was not sure where it was from.
He stated,”There were gunshots that were heard. I don’t know whether it was within or outside the compound. Everybody ran to the available rooms.”
Mohammed went ahead to state that he is not sure why the goons to shoot at him.
He noted,”Since it was near the podium where the electoral officials were sitting, I took few steps back and laid down. An officer came from nowhere, shot at me and left me crying for help.”
