Chebukati should disqualify himself, a sentiment that Azimio la Umoja one Kenya leader, Raila Odinga expressed.
Hon. Raila Odinga urged that the independent electoral and boundaries commission chairman should not president over the Mombasa and Kakamega gubernatorial races.
Raila said,” Chebukati should disqualify himself from presiding over Mombasa and Kakamega polls.”
While Campaigning for the orange democratic movement gubernatorial candidate, Abdulswamad Nassir, Raila Odinga stated that he has witnessed the kind of injustices that the people of Mombasa and Kakamega have gone through.
All this because of the independent electoral and boundaries commission chairman, Wafula Chebukati.
He however, assured his allies that despite the ups and downs the coalition is facing, a win is assured for them.
He said,”have decided to come here to see you face to face due to the injustices inflicted upon you and Kakamega people. They decided to postpone elections in the two counties because they were scared. But non matter how many times they postpone we will still win.”
The Mombasa and Kakamega polls were postponed because of a mix up in the names of the vying candidates and their ballot papers.
However, Deputy IEBC, Juliane Cherera stated that she did not see ballot papers from the mentioned counties( Kakamega and Mombasa) and she will not take blame for that.
She said,”We did not see Mombasa, Kakamega or Kitui Rural papers and so I cannot take responsibility for ballot papers that I was not part of verification.”
The Azimio la Umoja leader further commented on the presidential petition they filed. He said that as a party, they have faced a lot of injustices but he is not shaken because the truth will come out.
He stated,”Can’t you see that I am not sad or shaken by anything. I know eventually the truth shall be known. Martha Karua and I have seen a lot of injustice. We are dealing with very corrupt opponents who had planned to rig a long time ago. The truth shall set the Kenyan nation free.”
