Raila addressed claims of threatening supreme court judges. In his statement, the Azimio la Umoja explained that the statement he released was misinterpreted by the public.
Azimio la Umoja leader, Odinga Raila addressed claims saying that he only wanted the judges to see the evidence of how the 2022 general elections were rigged.
He said,”I did not threaten the courts. I informed the public on what are our prayers to the court.”
During the campaigns he held at Mombasa for the Mombasa Gubernatorial candidate, Abdulswamad Nassir, Raila stated that he just wants the supreme court of Kenya to declare him the president elect ,if errors are found in the election results.
However, Raila Odinga has received a backlash from a section of leaders such as Aden Duale, the Garissa township member of parliament elect , who stated that , Raila is unconstitutionally wrong to declare himself the president elect.
Duale stated that the only recognizable president elect is William Ruto of Kenya kwanza and his deputy Gachagua who were declared by the independent electoral and boundaries commission.
Aden Duale further explained that the statements from the Azimio la Umoja can be used against him in a court of law as committing treason.
Duale said,”Kenyans in their numbers came out on 9th of August and pronounced themselves through the ballot that their president is non-other than William Ruto and his deputy is Rigathi Gachagua.”
He continued,”The government printer through the official gazette notice on 16th August confirmed the same. These other stories we are being told are laughable. Actually, anyone doing this is committing a serious offence against the constitution.”
The presidential petition is still awaiting hearing as judges led by the Chief Justice Martha Koome will preside the hearing on Monday.
