Bigwig African Jurists arrive to observe presidential petition hearing at the supreme court.
According to reports, the Bigwig African jurists will oversea the ruling of the judges at the supreme court.
They are thereafter supposed to develop a report that will state how efficient the Judiciary system is in Kenya, based on the standards followed in electoral disputes.
The report stated,”The observers’ report also aims to contribute to a more independent legal profession and better adherence to the rule of law and international legal standards concerning the resolution of electoral disputes.
The head of the African jurists is the former Tanzania Chief Justice; Mohammed Othman.
Others include; Justice Lilian Tibatemwa Ekirikubinza of the Supreme Court of Uganda, Justice Ivy Kamanga of Malwai Supreme Court of Appeal, Justice Moses Chinhengo from Lesotho Supreme Court of Appeal and Justice Henry Mbha, president of the Electoral Court of South Africa.
The jurists are expected to hold pre-hearing meetings with the petitioners, this includes; the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Attorney-General of Kenya.
The supreme court of law is expected to hear the Presidential petition filed by Azimio la Umoja coalition, and giver a verdict by the 5th of September 2022.
