The difference between JPEG and PDF forms as discussed in the supreme Court
The format used in uploading the forms 34As from the polling stations has been a consistent factor in the 2022 presidential petition hearing.
The question is, what is the difference between JPEG and PDF forms uploaded in to the IEBC servers.
PDF is a short form for Portable Document Format. It was first developed by Adobe to create a convenient way for users to make and exchange documents.
In PDF the document can be shared across all devices but in order for it to open, the device must have a software that is compatible with PDF
JPEG on the other hand stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group which has the capability to contain lossy and compressed image data.
According to IEBC advocate, Mahat, he stated that KIEMS kit had an inbuilt scanner which scans images as a PDF and not a JPEG file.
He stated,”The kit takes an image, embedded in the kit is a scanner so the image is scanned as a PDF. We don’t have any other output.”
However, Azimio la Umoja lawyers seem to have a different view. Lawmaker Murgor stated that they have evidence of the forms being downloaded and converted then being uploaded thereafter with different information.
Murgor further stated that anyone can freely access the documents from the servers and convert them from JPEG to PDF.
