An expose by NTV media, has brought to book medics in a county hospital in Kisumu selling newly born babies.
The feature titled sold unborn detailed how the medics approached expectant mothers willing to sell their newborns to high-bidding clients and part with millions.
The medics would promise this mothers upto Ksh100,000 when the babies are born.
Contrary to their agreement, The mothers, claimed that they were unaware that their baby boys were fetching up to Ksh1 million for boys and Ksh800,000 for girls.
NTV media set up a trap for two brokers upon receiving a tip from the public. In the process, they filmed the medics negotiating with the potential buyers.
When the due date is approaching, the mothers would meet up with the buyers inorder to assure them that the deal was legit.
On the delivery day, the medics would process the discharge form for the mother and child before the infant is handed over to their new parents when the payments are completed.
One of the suspects confessed that they had sold 4 babies already, however, they claimed that he never benefited from the scheme. Only the mothers were paid.
In their defence, one of the medics narrated that the arrangement was for the wellness of the babies.
This was especially for those mothers who were struggling to cater for themselves and needed their babies to have a better life.
One mother said,”It is not about the money. I did not want to have any bond with the baby. I wanted the child to have a better life somewhere else. You do not know what I go through.”
A medic narrated,”She wanted to dispose of the baby, but I advised her against it. I told her that there was a friend who could take care of the child. The money was for the support of the mother and not mine nor my colleagues.”
The medics are awaiting arraignment in court as investigation is underway.
