Kenyans should be patient with the president.
Deputy speaker, Gladys Shollei has pleaded that Kenyans should be patient with the president.
She said that Kenyans should give the president time to sort things out; the harsh economic trends are hard to deal with.
Shollei said,”It is a new move to impact the livelihoods of people and it is not going to be instant we have to tighten our belts, it’s going to be a difficult time for the next 100 days to 12 months but Kenyans are going to see the fruits of some of the decisions in a year’s time.”
Shollei urged leaders around Kenya to calm down their people, because eventually president Ruto will meet everyone’s demand.
She further supported the decision of president William Ruto to do away with the subsidies. She said that this move will allow the government to focus on fertilizer subsidies hence more agricultural production.
Shollei said,”We are facing famine, and the price of Unga is still high but in the long term, the most sustainable decision is to say let’s subsidize fertiliser, increase production and then the price will naturally come down.”
“You can decide to subsidise fuel and everything but after a while, it is not sustainable and you are back to square one,” Shollei defended.
Her words comes a month after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, called on Kenyans to be patient with the new government as they try to awaken and revive the economy.
