President Ruto reverts Kenya meat commission back to the ministry of Agriculture.
The military took off Kenya meat commission on september 7, 2020. This was effected through a gazette notice issued by former Agriculture CS, Peter Munya.
It was explained that the transfer of power was because Kenya meat commission was making huge loses at the time.
Agriculture Cabinet secretary, Mithika Linturi who was addressing the media on november 4, announced that the commander in chief had issued the directive, reverting the military takeover of the commission as previously directed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Linturi however, stated that the military will still run its operations at KMC, because of the efficient work they executed in the commission.
Linturi stated,”The President has ordered that KMC be returned to the Ministry of Agriculture. The military is part of the government, and we must respect the good work that they have done as their management is good.
“We have no problem with them and we will continue to work together,” he added.
Linturi further highlighted the kind of work the military has done in KMC, that has benefitted farmers.
Something they did in a very short period, while in power.
He said,”They have been doing that for a short time, and we can see it from the supply of meat in the market. It is also very clean. What we want is the delivery of services, not who is doing what, because at the end of the day, citizens have to get better services.”
While issuing an address on madaraka day, former president Uhuru Kenyatta lauded the military for the work they had done in KMC.
He said,”When we gave them the Kenya Meat Commission to manage, they turned it into a profit making enterprise.”
