Former president, Uhuru Kenyatta leads peace talks in Nairobi Karen, between Ethiopian government and rival Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
This is the second phase of peace talks that the two parties are holding.
Uhuru stated,”We believe that next time, we will be holding talks in Mekele Tigray, then finally we will be celebrating victory for all of us in Addis Ababa.”
Additionally, Ex- head of state expressed his optimism regarding the peace talks. He stated that after the agreements, everything will certainly be good.
He stated,” I am certain that after this process will be working together for the betterment of Ethiopia and the African region.”
“After this process all will join in our struggle to make Africa a better place, and to end and silence the guns permanently so that we can focus on the well-being of our people.”
“We started in Pretoria, we are now in Nairobi and we are very hopeful next time we will be in Mekelle for our meeting and ultimately celebrate together in Addis Ababa.This is the prayer, hope and this is what we seek for our brothers here.”
The two warring parties, met up to formulate ways of disarmament of TPLF forces for adherence of the peace agreement that was signed last Wednesday.
The peace agreement stated,”The disarmament activities in the schedule should be completed within ten days from the conclusion of the meeting of the senior commanders” it states, adding “the ten days could be extended based on the recommendation of the senior commanders, to be endorsed by the Parties.
“The overall disarmament of the TPLF combatants, including light weapons, per the agreement, shall be finalized within 30 days from the signing of the agreement.”
