Suspended benefits for government workers is a list of slashed miscellaneous money used for conveniences in the government.
A notice released on a Friday, November 4, director generals, all directors as well as heads of departments among others directed all departments to revise their budgets in a bid to slow down Government’s spending.
The memo that was signed by the Ministry of Treasury’s Principal Secretary, directed the departments to suspend all new trainings as well as approvals of purchase of office furniture, fittings, computers and ICT equipments.
The Ministries were further directed to hold their meetings and taskforce engagements in their boardrooms instead of setting up meetings expensive hotel facilities.
The memo also directed them to limit allowances for lunches and suspend approvals for workshop and retreats.
However, Retreats may only be permissible in special or exceptional circumstances.
The memo read,”Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to revise their budgets downwards in line with budget cuts recently announced.
“The budget cuts have targeted various items such as local and foreign training, office and general supplies, hospitality supplies and services, local and foreign travel, purchase of office furniture, purchase of office equipment and various projects that have low absorption rates and/or challenges of implementation,”the memo added.
This comes after president William Ruto vowed to slash Government spending and wastefulness by saving atleast Ksh300 billion every year.
He stated that through this, the government will cut their dependence on other nations for revenue
