Hon. Raila Odinga, Azimio la umoja leader has come out to defend in stance on Genetically modified crops in the year 2011.
In the video, Raila Odinga reprimanded the negative critics of GMOs stating that they are failing to embrace the technological agriculture.
He said then,”Conservatism will kill innovation.”
However, yesterday Raila Odinga’s communication director, Dennis Onyango responded to the video saying they are now against GM crops because of the deadly characteristics, they were not aware of.
Dennis stated,”More than ten years later, new information has emerged, most of it against GMOs, as scientific scrutiny on has intensified, leading to his change of mind.”
“As science has evolved over the last decade, so has Mr Odinga’s thinking on GMOs. Odinga will stand ready to embrace that new information,” he added.
Sentiments on Genetically modified crops has been on the trends lately. This comes after Moses Kuria expressed that being in Kenya, makes you a candidate of death.
So many bigwigs including Religion leaders, have come out to reprimand Kuria for joking with the lives of Kenyans.
Kuria said,”We have so many things that can kill us in the country. Being in this country, you are a candidate for death.”
“And because so many things compete for death, there is nothing wrong with adding GMOs to that list. That is why we have deliberately allowed GMO until we are satisfied that we have enough maize,” he added.
