The Kenya haemophilia Association ( KHA) has revealed money set aside for blood disorders awareness in the country.
Led by KHA patron, David Sankok, they stated that through this initiative, Kenyans will be able to understand diseases such as sickle cell and haemophilia.
The association stated that a total of 500 Million will be set aside, for blood disorders awareness, all over the country.
According to research,Sickle cell and haemophilia, are genetically inherited disorders, where the blood fails to clot as expected.
Sankok stated,”That money will be specifically for awareness creation so that we can have an office that is up and running. An office that is not only of volunteers, so that they can enlighten people who are not aware.”
He stated that they analyzed the funds from the government, will not be enough to run their objective.
He said,”We decided that the allocation from the government will be only for operations and then we take NHIF to cover treatment of all those who are suffering from haemophilia and other blood disorders.”
According to the health reports, blood disorders are more prevalent in areas of nyanza and western.
In these regions, there is little or no knowledge of this blood disorders; some hold misconceptions such as bewitching and misdiagnosis for other commonly known diseases.
Additionally, more men are affected by sickle cell anaemia than women, since the male sex chromosome is the etiology of the disease.
“In Kenya haemophilia affects more men than women because it is brought by the X-chromosome,” a medic reported.
