CS Kuria gives farmers 72hrs to release stored maize or the gov’t will import maize.
Speaking at Evelyne Ogutu’s funeral service, CS Kuria gives farmers 72hrs to release hoarded maize.
He stated that if farmers adhere to this, then the government will have no need to import maize from abroad.
This comes after leaders from the rift expressed that if the government imports maize, it will hurt the prices in the markets hence frustrating farmers.
He stated,”Mkitoa mahindi mimi najua mambo itakuwa sawa. Tunaelekea mwezi ya tatu na tutaendelea kuomba mvua imyeshe.”
CS Kuria further stated that the government has plans to subsidize the price of manure and other farm inputs, to cushion farmers and increase food production.
He stated,”I know there is an underlying issue. Otherwise how do we explain importing maize from Argentina to sell it cheaper than the locally produced.”
“That is the story I want us to discuss. I know it has to do with manure and seedlings.”he added.
Moses further stated that he will not address the GMO issue. He further defended himself saying when the economic state becomes bearable, he will not mention Genetically modified foods.
He stated,”This GMO story is a topic that I wouldn’t want us to talk about. Let me tell you, when the price of maize flour drops to Sh120, you will not hear me talk about the genetically modified foods again.”
