CoG and MoH to formulate a mechanism by which community health volunteer can get a little something for their pockets.
In a meeting between the council of governors and the Ministry of health, it was agreed that the community health volunteer play a vital roll in ensuring wellness of the community.
The communique stated,”That the CoG and the MoH will provide a sustainable mechanism for providing stipends to CHVs,” the communiqué reads.
“The national government resources will be channelled to counties as a conditional grant towards CHV remuneration,” it added.
According to the Ministry of health statistics, over 9000 community health volunteers are working across counties and villages in Kenya.
Some of the roles of community health volunteer include ensuring all expectant mothers attend their prenatal clinics and deliver in hospitals.
They also ensure everyone is vaccinated especially during the covid-19 period.
The CHVs also educate the community on how to protect themselves from the prevalent diseases such as Malaria and HIV/ AIDS.
They assess the nutritional status of the community and They are also a channel through which the community airs their health needs.
