We want the president to address our issues- Farmers air their grievances to the president.
In Nambale, Busia county, farmers have pleaded with the president to consider everyone in supply of the subsidized fertilizer.
Speaking to the media, the farmers aired that they are unable to access fertilizer from the national cereals depot , citing the proximity.
The farmers complained,”We were asked to get our fertilisers from Malaba yet some of us cannot afford the transportation cost to and from Malaba. Some farmers don’t know where Malaba is located. How are we expected to access the subsidised fertilisers?”
“We want the president to address our issues. The prices of fertilisers are very high in this area,” one farmer added.
The farmers in Nambale also stated that there is partiality in distribution of this fertilizer. Only large scale farmers are the ones benefiting from the subsidized fertilizer.
It has deemed so hard to fuel their productivity, being that western Kenyan is characterized by Agriculture in Maize, cassava and other foods.
A farmer stated,”The government should distribute the fertilisers to the small-scale farmers in rural areas like this one so that we can all benefit from the subsidy. We depend on agriculture to make a living, especially in Western Region.”
The subsidized fertilizer was introduced by the president after he took his oath of office.
He stated that farmers can access this fertilizer from the Cereals depots to enhance food Production in Kenya.
President Ruto stated,”We have started a journey of changing the agricultural sector.”
