Headteachers under siege for imposing Unauthorized levies.
School headteachers under siege for imposing extra fees on parents. According to PS Belio Kipsang, school have been stressing parents with extra costs.
This they have been doing, despite the government allocating a fee of 15,000 per student.
Belio stated,”The ministry continues to receive complaints from aggrieved parents and other stakeholders on the unauthorised levies imposed by head teachers especially admission fees, purchase of desks and lunch money in complete contravention of the government policies and directives.”
The education principal secretary made a reminder that Basic Education Act, 2013, states that no public school or institution shall issue alternative fee structures.
He added that no school is allowed to charges such as lunch money unless they had a lunch programme previously.
Education sub county directors have been instructed to visit schools and ensure the headteachers are not getting away with illegal activities.
He stated,”Sub county directors of education have been instructed to visit all the schools in their jurisdiction to establish whether students are being sent away due to unauthorised levies and forward such cases for administrative action,” Kipsang said.
