Citizen tv and other reknown media houses directed to provide footage of Matiangi’s raid.
During the week, Citizen tv and other reknown media houses, broadcasted that former interior CS’s house was being raided by the police in an attempt to arrest him.
However, the following morning, the National police service and the ministry of interior refuted claims that they had sent sleutha to matiangi’s house.
A story that has raised a lot of controversial stories with Kenyans asking who is telling the truth or who is lying.
The media council of Kenya, has now directed all media houses to provide proof of Matiangi’s house being raided.
In a letter written to media houses on saturday, MCK demanded proof that the media crew was actually at Matiangi’s house and covered the raid.
MCK wrote,”While carrying out our monitoring function on the evening of February 8, 2023, the MCK came across your station’s coverage of the police raid.”
“We request you to provide the Council with actual footage collected by your crew at the scene and the identity of the editors/reporters who were sent there,” the statement added.
MCK raised this concern to clear the air on this happening that was pointed as politically motivated.
MCK wrote,”The Council is concerned by the refusal by the media to provide actual footage or photos from such a highly- publicised event, yet they were at the scene. Providing this information will clarify the matter to the public.”
“Providing only statements by lawyers and allies of Dr Matiang’i on one side and denials by government officials the next day creates confusion as to who is speaking the truth,” added the letter.
However, Matiangi’s lawyer, Danston Omari earlier, reiterated that the directorate of criminal investigation are the only ones who have the right to access the footages, if the cctvs around captured the happenings.
He stated,”People say they want us to prove this with photos and videos. The burden cannot be shifted to a private citizen. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have the power to go and pick up all the footage.”
“Can he go to the neighbours and pick up CCTV footage? The answer is no,” Omari posed.
