Ministry of health to give out first ever Cholera vaccine.
Ministry of health to roll out a cholera vaccine in sub counties of the 14 affected counties. The exercise which will take place at Madogo, Tana River County, will be presided over by health CS Susan Nakhumicha.
MoH statement read,”Following confirmation of a cholera outbreak in the Country, the ministry, working with line ministries, the affected counties and other health stakeholders has initiated various containment measures.”
“They include provision of cholera supplies to assist in the management of patients, provision of Water and Sanitation (WASH) supplies and household water treatment among others,” the statement added.
This comes after the country is trying to curb the rapid outbreak of this acute disease; at least 72 people have died and 4,173 cases reported in 14 counties.
According to Patrick Amoth, the health DG, some counties have been able to control the disease while others, cases are going up as days pass.
He stated,”The cases are coming down and I am confident that with efforts from partners, we will soon put the situation under control.”
The counties include; Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Kajiado, Murang’a, Machakos, Garissa, Meru, Nyeri, Wajir, Tana River, Kitui and Homa Bay.
According to research, Cholera is cause by a bacteria called Vibrio cholerae that is found in contaminated food and water.
Some of the symptoms include severe diarrhea that leads to dehydration and eventually death if no step is taken as soon as possible.
