Security CS Kindiki orders crackdown to disco matangas.
Security CS Kindiki orders crackdown to disco matangas in the coast region, this comea after numerous reported cases of early pregnancies in teens.
Speaking at a public baraza in Kilifi on Wednesday, Kindiki said 93 per cent of students had joined junior secondary school, however, the rest are no where to be found.
He stated,”But I’m worried about the seven per cent because we want all the children to go to school. That’s how serious we are.”
On the other hand, those who managed to join form one adds up to 69 per cent of the population, with the rest assumed to have dropped.
He stated,”That is why I have said if the disco is the reason 31 per cent of the children do not get to Form One, I must fight it.”
He ordered the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) and other security officers in the six coastal counties to launch a search, for the girls who are supposed to be in school but have not reported.
This comes months after the gender cabinet secretary, Aisha Jumwa lifted the ban that was there regarding the disco matangas.
She argued that disco matangas has been a revenue to small business owners and she is not going to kill that.
However, Aisha stated that minors should not be allowed to access the discos and if found, they should be arrested
She stated,”We promised to uplift small businesses and not kill them. The ban has deprived many people of their livelihoods hence I lift the ban on disco matanga. Minors should not be allowed in these functions. Police should arrest those who are found attending the function.”
