Gov’t exempts the following ramadhan days from taxation.
In a statement, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u stated that the Gov’t exempts the following ramadhan dates from Import Declaration Fee and Railway Development Tax.
They stated it has always been a culture for the government, even in the previous years, to allow the Muslim community to import duty-free goods or pay the relevant taxes in the absence of legal provisions for waivers.
The statement read,”The Ramadhan period will be observed soon when Muslims around the world will be fasting in observance of the Holy Month. During this period, the Muslims are expected to break their fast at sundown and each evening by consuming dates prior to any other foods.”
“In order to give the same support to our Muslim brothers, the Government has authorized that the dates imported and cleared between March 13, and April 30, be done without the payment of taxes, Import Declaration Fee and Railway Development Levy,” the statement added.
This year’s ramadhan calendar indicates that the holy month starts on March 23 to April 20th.
