We urge workers to refrain from participating- COTU takes stance on mass action.
COTU secretary general, Francis Atwoli and his deputy Benson Okwaro have called for an amicable solution to tackle the mass action scheduled on monday.
They stated that the country will be better off if the two( Raila Odinga and William Ruto) have a sit down and discuss the way forward instead of luring Kenyans into the streets.
Okwaro stated,”We appeal to both parties to engage in active dialogue and find a long-lasting solution that will promote economic development in the country.”
As a workers’ union, COTU warned all Kenyans workers against leaving their jobs to go and join in the protests.
They stated,”As the umbrella body for workers, we wish to remind workers to secure their jobs by reporting to their workstations,
“We urge workers to refrain from participating in any activities that may jeopardise their employment status,” Benson Okwaro added.
This comes after Ugunja member of parliament, Wundayi, urged employers to release all employees on monday, in order for them to participate in the demonstrations.
He stated,”Since Monday has been declared a public holiday, all employers except the media should release their employees and allow them to participate in their national duty. We expect employers will understand.”
