DP Gachagua explains why police were deployed today despite demos being called off.
The second in commands explains why troops were deployed today despite Raila calling demos off. He stated that this was in line with the prior preparations they had made before the address.
He explained that they were not sure, if the chaos would be totally zero, they did want to take chances.
He stated,”Aware that hooligans who were set to take advantage of the chaos to loot and steal could still be prepared to continue, our security officers are vigilant and on full alert.”
He further called upon Kenyans to go back to work, he assured that the chaos is over.
He stated,”With the calling off of the demonstrations and violence, I urge all Kenyans to go back to work and resume their businesses with vigour and alacrity.
The deputy president maintained that anyone who caused destruction to property during the protest, will face still face the law.
He stated,”I want to caution those young men who have been taking advantage of the violence to steal property, to mug people to loot property. If they care, look at the penal code. The consequences are extremely heavy.”
“All lawbreakers will be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law. I am happy our economy which had started showing signs of recovery is now back on track,” he added.
Notably, Yesterday Dp Gachagua commended Raila for giving heed to their words and calling off the protests.
Gachagua stated,”I salute Raila Odinga for calling off demonstrations and violence and choosing to pursue his issues in Parliament in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Kenya. That is statesmanship.”
