Motorists in the the Nakuru- Nairobi highway, were forced to spend a night on the road because of the blockage.
This came after a trailer burst its tyre and lost control, swerving to the right and blocking the road, Two local pedestrians were injured in the accident. An even that triggered that a group of irate locals to block the road.
Motorists complained that the youths also took advantage of the darkness to harass the motorists who were now left with no other choice but stay on the road.
One motorists lamented,”Rowdy young people are harassing drivers and demanding for money.”
In a statement that was released an hour to midnight, KENHA revealed that it had liaised with the Kenya Police to attend to the scene and offer security immediately.
The statement read,”The two pedestrians who were injured have been taken to hospital. We have also liaised with the Police to have the road cleared at the earliest possible opportunity.”
The road authority also gave alternative routes to motorists to avoid the pile up that was already on the highway.
KENHA stated,”Motorists to use Maji Mazuri-Ravine-Nakuru Road while motorists coming from Londiani may use Mau Summit-Molo-Nakuru Road or Mau Summit-Molo-Kibunja-Salgaa-Nakuru as we attend to the accident scene.
Its been an eventful easter with roads being closed down. On sunday Residents at Chuka in Tharaka Nithi County blocked the busy Embu-Meru Highway after a local leader was allegedly shot by the police.
