Several feared dead as bus belonging to Rayan coach overturns, while ferrying passengers destined for Garissa from Nairobi.
Preliminary reports indicate that the bus was overspeeding before the tragic incident. Rescue teams were dispatched the scene and rushed casualties to Thika Level 5 hospital for special attention.
According to pictures seen by our media house, the windscreen as well as its back glass, were completely shattered and damaged.
At the time of publishing, it was not yet clear how many individuals has lost their lives or sustained injuries in the accident.
Between January and March 2023, statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicated that 1,072 lives have been lost in road accidents, with Nairobi-Nakuru Highway being the rampant spot.
Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, has called for crackdown of all vehicles on the roads, to be able to identify all unworthy vehicles and ban them from the roads.
He also talked of measures that will be put up; including the installation of cameras on highways, improved car inspection and civic education to Kenyans on road safety.
He stated,”I directed NTSA to heighten surveillance to ensure unroadworthy vehicles are not allowed on our roads.”
