We have nothing to hide, we’ll defend our officers openly- CS Kindiki.
Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki has outlined that the ministry will openly defend the officers who open firearm when trying to uphold law and order.
Speaking at the National Assembly plenary on Wednesday, the cabinet secretary highlighted that this will make sure police officers do not go down for trying to gun down criminals.
He stated,”We have nothing to hide, and we have told our police officers that any officer who uses their firearms to enforce law and order and to defend themselves from being hurt by criminals in the manner in which the Constitution and the law allows, we will defend those officers openly.”
He however, warned that they are not going to offer protection to any officer, who uses his firearm to break the law.
He stated,” We shall not protect officials who misuse their firearms to kill people other than what the law provides on the use of lethal force. In fact, the government will be the one pursuing justice on behalf of those victims.”
He further explained that this policy will ensure an end to the extrajudicial killings that have happened before in the country.
He stated,”The policy of this administration is zero tolerance on extrajudicial killings, the police officers have been informed accordingly.”
CS Kindiki was answering the question of police officers shooting to kill protestors during the mass action.
