A report from the national police service indicates that Crackdown on illicit brew and drugs in Muranga intensifies.
On friday, police arrested and arraigned in court 100 people, who have been dealing the illicit brew in the county, even after the ban.
NPS stated,”Police in Muranga County have since Friday last week, arrested and/or arraigned in Court, 100 people in connection with dealing with illicit brews and/or drugs.”
The authorities further seized loads of illicit brew and assorted counterfeit drugs, that do not match the kenya bereau of standards regulations.
NPS reported,”They have equally seized over 5,000 litres of chang’aa, over 1000 litres of Kangara, and 100 crates of assorted alcoholic counterfeit drinks.”
The national police has cautioned against ingestion of illicit brew, citing that it has adverse effects compared to positive one.
The authority warned,”The National Police Service would like to caution the public that most of the local brews contain chemicals that are harmful for human consumption.”
This comes after the second in command, Rigathi Gachagua, declared war on those who deal illicit brew, citing that It will now not be business as usual for those who have been destroying the lives of our youth, profiteering from the sale of killer illicit brew and drugs in Central Kenya.
He shared these concerns with the faithful of PCEA Ngorano Centre Church at Ruguru Ward in Mathira Constituency, Nyeri County, during the celebration of Easter Sunday.
He stated,”Mt Kenya Region, in particular the former Central Province, has borne the brunt of illicit brew and substance abuse. The situation is so dire; we are staring at losing an entire generation to this menace, especially in Nyandarua, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, and Nyeri counties.”
”If we do not act now, an entire generation faces the risk of being wiped out in the next 10 years,” he added.
