Police rescue a 4 day old infant from a pit latrine in Kisii.
On 18/04/2023, The national police service confirmed that police rescue a 4 day old infant who was thrown in a pit latrine.
According to the police, a resident had reported that there was a voice of a child, projecting from the latrine, Making police to swing into action.
NPS stated,”Today, 18/4/2023, Police at Rioma Police Station responded to report made by a member of public, that there was a voice of an infant emanating from a pit latrine, within Rioma Catholic Church compound.”
The latrine was demolished and a female neonate estimated to be around 4 days old, was found, fighting for her dear life.
NPS stated,”OCS and Officers from the station responded swiftly to the scene, approximately 1.4km from the station, demolished the pit latrine and rescued a female infant estimated to be four days old.”
The authority expressed its willingness to protect the rights of the children, the baby was handed over to the sub- county chief nursing officer.
The National police service affirmed,”Police took the baby to Marani Level 4 Hospital and handed her over to the Sub County Chief Nursing Officer in sound health.”
”In the best interest of the child, NPS through its specialized Child Protection Units is committed to the protection of children in Kenya,” they added.
The national police service has commended the members of the public who joined hands to make sure the life of this baby is not ended.
NPS stated,”We applaud the member of public that shared the information that led to the timely rescue of the baby, and wish the baby girl, safety and good health.”
