Valuables of unknown value destroyed as fire razes down Kabianga hostels, on wednesday night.
According to Witnesses, fire began on the fourth floor of Hostel Six, razing down students’ property.
What has raised eyebrows is that the incident happened the same day when the university was being reopened.
The tertiary institution located at Kericho, closed two weeks after students went on a demonstration over delayed HELB loan disbursement and planned fee increase.
The fire brigade from the County Government of Kericho and James Finlays Tea Company swung into action and helped contain the fire.
Rift valley police boss stated,”We have not recorded any casualty so far but property of unknown value was destroyed.”
The cause of the fire, has however, not yet been established. Investigations are underway.
