Suba North MP Milly Proposes a life sentence for leaking of nude photos. The lawmaker highlighted that people are being publicly shamed and the masterminds behind it are never fished out.
She stated that she would have proposed a death sentence, but she is against such a deadly punishment, hence proposed a life sentence.
She cited that this proposal will not only protect women, but also men upon the amendment of the bill yet to be drafted.
She stated,”The issue of morality is very personal. What is done in private should not be brought to the public. We are going to amend our laws and make stricter penalties.”
“If I was a supporter of the death penalty I would have brought it. We should make it a life sentence then,” she added.
In a parliamentary meeting that was being chaired by Deputy speaker, Gladys Shollei, Saw Milly Odhiambo defending the rights of these victims.
Hon. Milly Odhiambo expressed that leaders are being targeted in this very private matter and it does not matter what party one is afiliated to, she will defend the rights of everyone.
She further urged the directorate of criminal investigations, to look into this matter and let the culprits be brought to book.
She stated,”Who told you that a woman posted a photo of herself naked? These incidents must stop in this country. The DCI must follow these guys who have gone after many women. You cannot harass a woman.”
“Behind that person you are harassing, there is a human being. Have mercy on that person because they have children. Why would you do that?” She posed
According to Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act of 2018, Publishing of intimate photos of someone is punishable by law.
The constitution reads,”A person who transfers, publishes, or distributes obscene or intimate images of another person through computer data transfer systems shall be guilty on conviction and liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh200,000, or imprisonment for a maximum period of two years, or both.”
