We are still going to demonstrate- Azimio demands return as Talks are suspended.
Speaking at an Interview in TV47, Jubilee Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni stated that his coalition will still protest even if the price of Unga go down.
He stated that the price of maize flour going down, does not mean the cost of living has gone down they way Azimio la umoja had tabled in their demands.
He stated,“When we say the cost of living should go down, we do not mean that you reduce the price of maize flour. We are still going to demonstrate even if the price of unga gets reduced.”
Kioni further called for reinstatement immediate reinstatement of the subsidies that had been introduced during Uhuru’s regime, citing that the suspension saw the high cost of living.
He stated,”Every government around the world protects its citizens through offering subsidy programs on food commodities.”
“It is not a new concept in Kenya and it should be brought back or else we will continue wearing sufurias on our heads,” Kioni added.
Kioni also stated that they are demanding for free education to all Kenyan student, as it was in The late former president, Mwai Kibaki’s era.
He stated,”We want to see free education for university and secondary school students as envisioned by the former administration.”
Last year, President Ruto terminated the Subsidies, citing that the program had cost taxpayers’ money.
He stated then,”We are not going to be subsidising consumption, we are going to work and support producers. The subsidy that was done I was being briefed by the Agriculture Ministry, the taxpayer was paying Ksh7 billion every month that could not be accounted for.”
Meanwhile, Azimio la umoja suspended bipartisan talks, on Tuesday.
They stated,”We have hit a stalemate and choose to suspend these talks until such time as there may be consensus or position changes.
