Raila warns the DP against politicising the death of Mukami.
In a statement, opposition leader, Raila warns the DP against politicising the death of the late Mukami who was the wife to the late freedom fighter, Dedan Kimathi.
Raila highlighted that the death of Mukami was a huge loss to the nation of Kenya and should not be used as an arena to spread politics and propaganda.
He stated,”It is an issue that can be solved by the government, that has been basically pushed over a long period of time. I do not want anybody including the deputy president to try to politicise this issue or score political points over a very very sad affair for the nation.”
Raila further urged the government to hold a state funeral in honour of the late freedom fighter. He also expressed that Mukami has been his close friend and whether he is invited or not, he must attend the funeral.
He stated,”I would wish the final state funeral service in honour of the late Maitu Mukami Kimathi to be held at Uhuru Gardens where Mau Mau freedom fighters were being tortured.”
“I cannot miss burying Mukami because we have been very close. I will definitely be there, I do not need to be invited to be there,” he added.
Mukami died while receiving treatment at a health facility in Nairobi.
ODM in their condolence message stated,”We mourn the passing on of an icon, the widow of veteran freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, Mama Mukami Kimathi last night aged 101 years. As a nation, we have lost a great woman who shall be remembered for her courage and determination to see a better Kenya for ever.”
