Kenyans should be proud that we rule ourselves- Kingi.
Speaking during the 60th Madaraka day celebration, Senate speaker Amason Kingi highlighted that Kenyans should applaud themselves for the far they have come.
He outlined that 60 years of self rule is not a joke and should be celebrated with pride. He added that all lessons learnt throughout the years should be acknowledged for progression in future years.
He stated,”Madaraka Day is a significant day for our country, and Kenyans should be proud that we have democracy and that we rule ourselves. Kenyans should also acknowledge the lessons we have learned in the 60 years of independence.”
On his part, National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetangula stated that in order for Kenya to move forward, all the political circus should be put aside.
He stated,”The house is independent of the executive. The house consists of political players and we have to mix the two because they have caucuses outside the house but come and vote as individuals. You must be aliev to that.”
He challenged citizens to focus on the positive side of Independence and how development can be improved in the country.
He posed,”What social transformation do we give to our country? How do we get rid of abject poverty in our country, provide clean water, sound, decent health care, education for all, and all these issues that we have been talking about for the last 60 years?”
“That is what this day should signify. Our forefathers fought for independence. They brought independence, we should not betray them by derailing the cause for which they fought,” he added.
