South Korea donates bicycles to Kenya through First Lady Rachel Ruto’s Mama Doing Good organisation. The donation aims to promote clean, sustainable transport, achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, and empower people through cycling. The bicycles will be distributed to women and men nationwide, among them farmers.
The first lady stated,”Today I presided over the handover of 283 bicycles generously donated to MaMa Doing Good by the Republic of Korea. It is a great honour and privilege to officially receive these bicycles, which include 100 commuter bicycles, 155 electric bicycles and 28 mountain and road bicycles.
” Our growing partnership with the Republic of Korea has played an important role in promoting sustainable transport and empowering people through bicycles. We would like to thank the Republic of Korea for their support,” she added.
The first lady expressed her optimism with the use of bicycles, citing that cycling will be a safer and sustainable path for all.
She stated,”With road transport accounting a significant percentage of global carbon emissions, cycling is emerging as a pathway to a safe and sustainable future for all. Cycling is a zero-emission mode of transport, unlike cars or motorcycles, which rely on fossil fuels.”
“By choosing to cycle instead of driving, you are helping to reduce your carbon footprint and overall greenhouse gas emissions. This significant donation of bicycles contributes to a healthier and more environmentally conscious society,” she added.
