Police officer arrested after demanding and receiving bribe- EACC.
Speaking to the media, The ethics and anti- corruption commission reported a case of a police officer who is currently under custody.
Apparently, the officer of the law, had demanded and received a bribe in order to allow for release of a motor vehicle, which was captured.
EACC reported;
ARREST OF POLICE OFFICER NO. 82192 CPL JOSHUA OUMA ODOUR BASED AT MUMIAS POLICE STATION
1. Following a complaint from a motorist, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has, today, arrested Joshua Ouma Odour, a Police Officer based at Mumias Police Station in Kakamega County for demanding and receiving a bribe in order to release a Motor Vehicle which had been detained at the station.
2. The said vehicle was detained on allegations that the license plate was not clearly visible. The officer was escorted to EACC Bungoma Office where he was processed and later booked at Bungoma Police station where he is currently detained pending further action tomorrow.
3. The Commission received the complaint today and immediately commenced investigations which culminated into the arrest of the suspect while receiving the bribe.
4. EACC calls upon all public officials recognize that they hold their respective offices in public trust and as such, they should always use the privilege and opportunity of holding public office to serve the public with diligence and honesty. It is not only criminal but also immoral for a public official to expect, solicit or demand bribes from citizens, for whatever reason.
