President Ruto launches boda boda care at KICC.
President Ruto launches boda boda care at KICC; Speaking today the the Kenya international conference centre, The head of state expressed that his bottom up agenda is still in the works.
He launched the Boda Boda Empowerment whose first phase will train 200,000 riders drawn from all the 47 counties.
He further stated that boda boda riders can build themselves through saccos, which will in turn lead to an easy access to credit.
He stated,”The formalisation of Boda Boda through SACCOs will elevate the sector’s profile, offer a platform to upgrade the well-being of operators and spur access to affordable credit. This will transition this plank of our economy into a sustainable and reliable transportation system in the long-run.“
This comes after a section of Boda boda riders clashed the event to express their grievances to the head of state.
Lesatin who claimed to be the Chairman of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya decried that they supported president Ruto but they were not invited to the event.
Lesatin stated,”The bodaboda leaders who were chosen by the previous administration that are here today are not bodaboda leaders. I am the national chairman of the Bodaboda Association of Kenya. Those who have spoken here are only doing so because they have cartels who are pushing for them to get close to you (The president).”
“We stood with you (Ruto) and out of respect because we did not get a chance to bring our people to this event, we invite the President for another meeting because we fought for this government,” he added.
However, President Ruto expressed that he is and will always support boda boda riders.
He stated,”have used about Ksh250 million of my own money as a contribution in fundraisers organised by bodaboda operators. This means that this is an important matter to me.”
