Carpooling is a good idea- Ichungwah welcomes Raila’s strategy to hurt Ruto.
Yesterday during Kamukunji rally, opposition leader, Raila Odinga urged all Kenyans to join him in the civil Disobedience.
He for instance advised Kenyans to carpool as a way of avoiding the tax that has been put up by the government through the finance bill 2023.
Raila called upon all give employers to allow their employees time to walk to and from work. The opposition leader also called on matatu owners to double their carrying capacity while maintaining the fares at the same rates.
He urged all police officers to support his call by allowing matatus to carry above capacity which is against the Traffic road rules. He also instructed Kenyans to block the paths of President William Ruto’s motorcade and those of his government
He stated,”Let us deny motorcades the right of way. They may sound the sirens at their wish but everyone must follow the directive.”
Supporting his idea was Kikuyu Member of Parliament, Kimani Ichungwa who outlined why carpooling will do more good to the country than harm, like Raila expects.
Kimani stated that carpolling will exert less pressure on the national imports bill of which fuel is a major component and will also help in stabilising the kenyan shilling against the dollar.
He stated,”Carpooling is a good idea. Reduced fuel demand also exerts less pressure on the national imports bill of which fuel is a major component and could further stabilise the shilling against the dollar. A stronger shilling is good for the economy. I like this conversation. Clearly, the conversation has changed indeed.”
