Matatu operators announce fare hike in matters tax.
Matatu operators announce fare hike in matters tax; This they said will be effected come july, after the finance bill takes shape.
The Matatu Owners Association Chairman Albert Karakacha highlighted that the move is to ensure that their businesses made a profit as they compete with the high cost of living.
Mr. Albert called upon all Kenyans using public transport, to remain patient with the drivers and conductors because they have no other way to caution themselves.
He stated,”If you go to the supermarket after the prices of products have increased in the country, the prices of the products there will have also increased.”
“There is no way we can continue running our business the same way yet the tax increase will also increase the prices of fuel across the country,” he added.
He however, warned all matatu operators against oppressing Kenyans and taking advantage after the new directive. He urged that they should not charge anyone extra.
“We are asking our members to check when increasing the prices so that they don’t overdo it and hurt our customers,” he stated.
This comes a day after the opposition leader urged all workers to walk to work as a way of evading fuel. Sharing the same sentiments was Kimani Ichungwah who stated that carpooling was indeed a good idea.
Ichungwah stated,”Car pooling is a good idea.
Reduced fuel demand also exerts less pressure on the national imports bill of which fuel is a major component and could further stabilise the shilling against the dollar.A stronger shilling is good for the economy. I like this conversation. Clearly the CONVERSATION HAS CHANGED indeed.”
