Uproar after SRC proposes a 14 per cent salary for top government Officials; next month in a review proposed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to cushion them against the rising cost of living.
For instance, President Ruto’s salary rise by 7.1 percent from July 2023 to Sh1,546,875 from Sh1,443,750 currently before a further 6.7 percent jump to Sh1,650,000 from July 2024.
The Deputy President’s salary will rise to Sh1,367,438 from Sh1,227,188 at present from July 1 before hitting Sh1,402,500 next year.
On their part, Cabinet secretaries will enjoy a rise to Sh1,056,000 per month from July 1, 2024 from Sh924,000.
Other officials who will enjoy this raisw include; principal secretaries, the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice, the Auditor-General, judges, the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Inspector-General of Police and the chairpersons of key commissions such as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Netizens have however expressed mixed reaction on this proposal by SRC.
Byran expressed,”Freedom is really coming. so SRC is proposing a 14 per cent increase in salaries of President William Ruto, deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and other top government officials.”
Alinur Mohammed stated,”As hustlers, we have been asking for an increase in our salaries to cushion ourselves against the high cost of living. Finally, our prayers have been answered. We are happy that finally, our fellow hustlers, President William Ruto, Deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, and their cabinet secretaries will have a 14% increase on their salaries to cushion them against the rising cost of living.”
