You have a choice to resign- DP Gachagua tells CSs not pleased with Ruto’s No to pay rise.
Speaking at Elgeyo Marakwet County during the Thanksgiving ceremony of National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, The second in command dared Cabinet secretaries to resign if they are not pleased with the president’s directive.
This comes after President Ruto rejected SRC proposal of 14 per cent rise for The president, Deputy president, Cabinet secretaries and other top government officials.
Cabinet secretaries were expected to receive Ksh1,056,000 as of July 2024 from the current Ksh924,000.
President Ruto stated,”I have instructed SRC to give us international best practice because we need to reduce the gap between all of us who work for the people of Kenya. We need to ensure that the gap between the people paid the least and the person paid the highest is not too big because we are all workers.”
The deputy president gave the cabinet secretaries a free will to resign and get out of office, if they are not pleased with the head of state.
DP Gachagua stated,”If there is a Cabinet Secretary who is not pleased with President William Ruto’s directive, you have a choice to write a resignation letter and let us find someone else who will accept that salary.”
The deputy president highlighted that they are not interested in any salary increase. He further instructed SRC to return funds if any are remitted to the too government officials.
He stated,”We don’t want salary increments. Even if the money is found, we will not accept it. If you remit the salaries with increased figures, we will return them to the sender.”
