The Government shall defeat Al-shabaab and all violent extremists- CS Kindiki.
The interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki toured Wajir, Mandera, and Garissa Counties for a series of engagements with Counties Security and Intelligence Committees, leaders and residents.
He stated,” The Government shall defeat Al-shabaab and all violent extremists who continue to threaten our national security and destabilise communities in North Eastern Kenya.”
While in North Eastern, he held a consultative engagement with Mandera Central Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committee, National Government Administration Officers, Community and religious leaders.
Kindiki stated,”Through collaborative partnerships with community and religious leaders, security agencies will crush violent extremists, combat cross-border crime, and facilitate development in the North Eastern Region,”
“The Government will spend at least Ksh.20B to enhance the capacity of security officers in the frontline through the modernisation of their equipment, technology, and capacity to effectively tackle the complex security challenges such as terrorism and banditry,” he added.
He highlighted that the government round the clock security to contractors and engineers working on key infrastructure projects in North Eastern Kenya and insulate them from criminal elements and extremists keen on sabotaging their operations.
Notably, the CS expressed that through collaborative partnerships with community and religious leaders, security agencies will crush violent extremists, combat cross-border crime, and facilitate development in the North Eastern Region.
He stated,”To ensure the safety of security officers, plans are at an advanced stage to procure modern equipment, including choppers, drones, MRAPs, and APCs. The Government will invest more than Ksh.20B in modernisation of security equipment and address the welfare of security officers.”
