Speaking at the tea reforms conference, the second in commande highlighted that it is their number one priority, to protect the farmers.
He revealed that president Ruto has tasked him with streamlining the agricultural sector, and he will do that until every farmer gets more in their pockets.
He stated,”This Tea Conference is not like any other meeting. The difference this time around we have a President and Deputy President, we are fully committed to improving the lives of the farmers from the Bottom-Up Up. Under Executive Order number 1 of 2023, the President has tasked me with streamlining the Coffee, Tea, and Milk subsectors sectors. I have been to Meru on coffee matters, and now, we are Kericho on Tea,”
“We will soon appoint ambassadors. We have changed the foreign policy so that 70 percent of their work will be to look for markets for our products. They will sign performance contracts that will ensure this role is well defined,” he added.
Notably, the deputy president stated that the government is currently looking for tea markets countrywide and boosting of energy for factories.
He stated,”The Kenya Kwanza Administration is committed to looking for tea markets worldwide. Therefore, we will soon be appointing ambassadors from areas that farm tea to represent the country in countries that consume tea,”
“Hydopower projects of factories must be supported to completion to boost energy. We also call for diversification of energy sources. We have limited agricultural extension officers. We ask the Government to consider increasing these numbers for quality produce,” he added.
