The Shakahola massacre is the worst breach of security in the history of Kenya- CS Kindiki before the senate.
Earlier Today, Interior cabinet secretary, Kithure Kindiki appeared before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee to investigate the proliferation of religious organisations and the circumstances leading to the deaths in Shakahola, Kilifi County.
The cabinet secretary decried that in the history of insecurity in the country, shakahola massacre has hit the headlines.
He outlined that right now their main focus is to push for legal reforms, that will help in identifying and taming rogue religious leaders.
He stated,”The Shakahola massacre is the worst breach of security in the history of our Country. To avert a repeat of this tragedy, the Government will relentlessly push for legal reforms to tame rogue preachers who misuse the scriptures to mislead their followers and indoctrinate them through religious extremism.”
He further highlighted that they will strengthen the law enforcement in order to manage religious organizations and also deal with the rogue ones.
He stated,”Self-regulation will also be an integral part of the regulatory framework and reforms in the management of religious organisations. Law enforcement will be strengthened to tame the proliferation of unaccountable religious activities that include indoctrination of innocent people.”
“A vast majority of religious organisations and leaders are responsible, law abiding and diligent, and have played a pivotal role in development. The small minority who are rogue must not be allowed to blot the place, space, and value of religion and religious activities in the country,” he added.
