We want to know why we are repaying a loan and no money came from China- Okiya Omtatah.
Busia senator who is also a human rights activist, Okiya Omtatah, has claimed that Kenya fully funded itself on matters SGR and no loan was taken from China.
He questioned why the government of Kenya is making Kenyans pay for a non existent loan, knowing very well, no money came from china.
Okiya stated,”Contrary to what we have been told, SGR was fully funded by Kenyans to the tune of Sh900 billion.
“SGR did not cost Sh360 billion, and no money came from China. We want to know why we are repaying a loan for which no single cent came to Kenya,” he added.
The senator further outlined that all Kenyan debts should be audited, for Kenyans to know what debts they are responsible for. Otherwise, those who borrowed the loans, should repay them.
He stated,”We must audit our debts and pay those that benefitted us.Those that have not benefited Kenyans should be paid by those who benefited from it. If the unpaid debt is taking 70 per cent of our state budget, it then calls for a state of war.”
This comes after the senator also claimed that he has been offered a sum of ksh. 200 million, to drop the finance Act 2023 petition.
Okiyah,”Sometimes we get anonymous calls with people saying bullets are not over in Kenya but those are threats and unnecessary temptation. We must overcome it. We do not have another country other than this one where you can be a citizen so let us not lose it.”
“My efforts to continue fighting and standing for what I believe is right is not going to be deterred. “It is not clear, for example, if expatriates and persons temporarily working in the country will be subject to the levy considering they may not intend to set up residence in the country,” he added.
